Stella McCartney has always been interested in fashion, designing her first jacket at age 13 before interning with Christian Lacroix three years later. After completing her degree in fashion design at Central St Martins, she was appointed the Creative Director of Chloe in 1997 before establishing her eponymous brand in 2001. Inspired by her animal rights activist mother’s values, Stella, who is a lifelong vegetarian, has followed in her footsteps, refusing to use leather, fur or skin of any type in her designs, which can be recognized by their sharp tailoring, bold aesthetics and masculine allure. The brand is also committed to being environmentally conscious, only selecting suppliers whose production methods are in line with the credo.
